Church Leaders

The members of our church family have appointed these specific members to serve as ministers, elders, and deacons. This group of individuals work together to support each other and the congregation, to ensure everyone who attends receives what they need physically and spiritually.



Preacher

Daniel Davenport

Daniel Davenport, native to Creswell, NC,  is the preacher at Community Christian Church of Christ. He is married to his wife Kendra of 11 years and they have two children.

Since September of 2012, Daniel has blessed the church with his enthusiasm and love for preaching the word of God. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Theology from Mid-Atlantic Christian University (formerly known as Roanoke Bible College), Daniel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the church. His service to the Lord through ministry totals over 18 years in various locations including Missouri, Ohio, and North Carolina.

Although moments of spare time for Daniel can be few and far between, he does have a variety of hobbies that he enjoys doing including reading and studying history. Among other things, Daniel likes to fish, golf, and cheer on the North Carolina Tarheels basketball team. But coming from a small town in NC, there will always be a special place in his heart that is saved for farming and of course John Deere tractors.






Chairman of Elders/Deacons

James Joiner

James Joiner, better know as Jim to the congregation was raised on a family farm right in Richlands, NC. He is married to his wife, Terry Joiner of 43 years. Together they have two children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Jim currently works as the branch manager for Tidewater Energy Propane Company. When he isn't working, Jim enjoys traveling with his family, golfing, and cruising around on his motorcycle.

Jim Joiner has been a part of Community Christian Church for over 20 years. Jim can be found serving in many areas of the church in which he has done so for more than 15 years. Sometimes out front leading the congregation in worshiping, but often working  behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly for our worship services.






Elder

George S. Owens

George S. Owens was born in Clinton, NC and moved to the Richlands area when he was nine years old. He is married to his wife Hildridge of 48 years. Together they have two daughters and four granddaughters. Family is important to him, so vacationing with them to White Lake in the summer time and to the mountains in the Fall is something he looks forward to every year. George is a country boy at heart and loves to fish and hunt for wild game.

George served our country in the United States Air Force. After completing his service, he began his work with Sprint Phone Company and retired from there after 35 years.

George has helped the church grow to what it is today.  He served as a deacon for 5 years, and then he was ordained as an elder on January 5th, 1992.  Being a loyal member of 45 years, he has shown his commitment and willingness to be the servant that Christ has called him to be.






Elder

Stuart Ervin

Stuart is  from Onslow County and has been married to his wife Christine for 42 years. He has 2 children and 1 granddaughter. Stuart works as an IT Specialist, but during his down time he enjoys gardening, reading, and being his grandaughter's "Poo-Pa".

Stuart Ervin has been a part of Community Christian Church for 39 years. During his time here, he has served faithfully as a deacon for 13 years and now as an elder for 19 years. Stuart often works behind the scenes to ensure the worship services run smoothly using his knowledge of computers and his expertise in technology to serve God.






Elder

Leslie Lanier

The Back Swamp community is where Leslie calls home. He enjoys camping, traveling, and boating with his wife Charlotte who he has been married to for 46 years. With five grandkids from their two children, he has a lot to keep him busy.

Leslie acquired a Junior Accounting Degree from Miller-Motte Business College. He is retired from a civil service job in which he worked as a facilities planner. Leslie also served our country in the United States Navy SeaBees.

Community Christian Church has been a part of his life for almost 40 years. He has committed himself to the church by serving as an elder and has been doing so for 30 years. Leslie has contributed many hours to the church and has dedicated his life to being a servant of the Lord.






Elder

James Warren

Originally from Gold Point, NC,  James Warren is the retired preaching minister of Community Christian Church in which he served faithfully for 35 years.  He has a BS in Christian Education and a Masters in Ministry. Before he became a minister, he served 6 years in the US National Guard.

He has been a member of Community Christian Church for 40 years and currently serves as an Elder, which he has done for the past three years.

James and his wife Teresa have been married for 27 years. They have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. When he is not working at Johnson Funeral Home, James enjoys a good day of fishing.

James loves the Lord and wants nothing more than to serve him by sharing the gospel and enjoying what everyday has to offer.

Charles Powlas

Charles Powlas is originally from Wilmington, NC. He has been married to his wife Debbie for 25 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. Charles has since retired from his job as a firefighter from Camp Lejeune Fire Dept. Woodworking has become of one of the ways he likes to spend his free time.

He has been a member of Community Christian Church for 20 years and has spent 12 of those years serving as a deacon for the church. Charles is  a hardworking member and works behind the scenes to help provide for members of the church and others in need.

William R. Boggs

Better known as Bill, to the congregation, Mr. Boggs was born in Grand Island, Nebraska but grew up mostly in Columbus, Ohio.

Bill has always had a desire to serve others. For a period of time, he was a part of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. In another act of service, Bill was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for a total of 35 years, which included active duty and reserve time. When Bill retired from the USMC, he still felt the calling to serve the community.He then joined the Onslow County Sheriff's Office.

Bill has been married for 39 years to his wife Margaret. They have six children and one grandson. Bill's grandson has followed in his footsteps as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

Not only has Bill served his country and the community for the majority of his life, he has also served his church in many roles and responsibilities. He has been a member of Community Christian Church since 1978.






Deacon

Charles Jarman

Charles Jarman is from Jacksonville, NC. He served our country in the US Coast Guard for 21 years. Married to his wife Joyce of 57 years, they have two children, three grandchildren, and one great grandson.

He started attending Community Christian Church of Christ in July of 1999. Charles has been a deacon for over ten years now and he is one of the leaders of the Missions Ministry at the church. 

On the side, Charles has placed a lot of interest in being an amateur radio operator.

Danny Smith

Danny Smith was raised in Pink Hill, NC. He has been married to his wife Helen for 42 years. Together they have one child and two grandchildren. Hunting and fishing are among a few of his hobbies. He also enjoys a little part-time farming. And every now and then, he mixes it up with practicing his woodworking and photography skills.

Danny has been a barber for 46 years. He owns Richlands Barber Shop, which is located in the heart of downtown Richlands. It has been in business for 38 years and has served the community well.

After being a long standing member of Community Christian Church for 41 years, Danny has taken on the role of a deacon. He served the church faithfully and will now serve the church in this new aspect.

Allen Page

Allen Page is originally from Carmi, Illinois. Allen and his wife of 20 years, Stephanie, have a one daughter together. He has been a member of Community Christian Church since 2006 and began serving as a deacon in 2014.  Allen is always ready and willing to serve the church in any way that he can.

Allen proudly served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corps.  In 2014, he retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. Now, he works in construction; training workers on safety and heavy equipment operation. Also, on the side he works as a plumber.

During his downtime, Allen enjoys woodworking, hunting, and fishing.

Matt Bryan

Matt Bryan is a native of Richlands, NC growing up on the outskirts in a place called Back Swamp.  He is married to his high school sweetheart Tori and they have been married for 9 years. They have three children together. Matt has been attending Community Christian Church for several years and  began serving as a deacon in January 2016.

When Matt isn't working for the state, he likes to exercise, fish, and let his hair blow in the wind. He also loves spending time with his wife and hanging out with their three little girls.

One of Matt's favorite sayings is, "It's not about your ability; it's about your availability." This phrase helps him remember that sometimes it's just a matter of being willing. It's okay if you're not the best, you just need to show up.

Jerry Horne

Jerry Horne is born and raised in Richlands, NC.  Married to his wife Nancy Carolyn of 54 years, they have 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Jerry spent 35 years running an upholstery shop. Now likes to spend his free time woodworking, hunting, and fishing.

Jerry has been a member of Community Christian Church since 1972. He has spent about 35 of those years being a deacon.






Deacon

Harold Davis

Harold Davis has been a member of Community Christian Church for 21 years and has been serving as a deacon for one year. Harold has taken college courses that emphasize on Bible teaching and Bible study to help him grow in the knowledge and truth of the Bible. 

 Native to the Richlands area, he and his wife, Marilyn Davis, of 45 years have two sons and one granddaughter. Harold served in the US Air Force for four years Active Duty in which he went on deployments to Vietnam and Thailand.  Then he served a remaining 22 years and retired as a reservist for a total of 26 years in the US Air Force. Harold is also retired from his job as an Electrical Planner/Estimator. These days Harold enjoys golfing, flounder gigging, and traveling.






Deacon

Gary Morton

Gary Morton is currently serving as a deacon at Community Christian Church. He has been a long standing member for 43 years.  Gary has been married to his wife Gail for 42 years, and together they have two children and five grandchildren.

He is retired from a civil service job, and he spends part of his time working now as a maintenance man . Gary has always been a behind the scenes kind of guy at the church. Whatever needs fixing he is there to help, and fills in wherever necessary doing what he can to best serve the Lord.
